Java Web Application Developer

Job Description

Rabbitsoft, innovative start-up software company based in Cambridge, is seeking a passionate Java web application developer to join their engineering team for the agile development of a next generation, web-based collaboration platform.

You will be responsible for the implementation and testing of components of the application using object-oriented Java (J2EE and Spring Framework) and web technologies (HTML, CSS and JavaScript). We're looking for exceptionally skilled and motivated individuals who can bring their own ideas to the table and help influence the future direction of the product.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Java (J2EE and Spring Framework)
  • Web technologies (HTML, CSS & JavaScript including AJAX, JSON and JavaScript frameworks such as JQuery)
  • Unit Testing (e.g. JUnit and Mockito)
  • Understanding of web standards and cross-platform/cross-browser issues
  • Exceptional problem solving and debugging skills
  • Passion for clean code and clear naming conventions
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • Highly self-directed, a strong individual contributor and strong team player

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience of agile software development (e.g. Extreme Programming)
  • Experience or interest in user experience and user interface design
  • Experience of Java content repositories (e.g. Apache Jackrabbit)
  • Exposure to XMPP, WebDAV, OSGI or OpenSocial
  • Knowledge of web application/database deployment and scalability (including cloud infrastructures such as Amazon EC2)
